Role Title – Construction Manager & Building Crew Leader
Who this is for:
Carpentry and natural building professionals with passion and expertise for using elemental and recycled materials. Values plastic-free, chemical-free, resourceful & aesthetic creations. Capable of mindful construction to take the time to gather materials, to work for quality over quantity, and to observe the environment first before rushing projects forward. Strong love of working with recycled and reclaimed materials, which may not always feel straightforward, but is ecologically relevant and can become something inspiring and artful.
What you will be working on – phase I scope includes:
Interior Development: setting up additional kitchenettes, studio workshops and transformation of existing, almost-ready spaces into rentable rooms; could include furniture building as well as stripping, insulating, electric work, plumbing, gas & natural plaster finishes
Exterior Zen Zone: event space set-up incorporating a sauna, hot tub, cold plunge, showers, simple jungle gym, changing room, and bathroom facilities connected to a phytopurification system
Outdoor Infrastructure: lots of permanent fencing, a first mini glass-walled greenhouse, and assistance in the construction of a phytopurification system (wetland plant filtered septic) which will be led by a licensed professional
Future plans of this role include refining all of the above projects as well as creation of a farmstand caravan, a creative ride-up saloon, several barns, large glass greenhouse, natural mobile homes development, yoga deck, interior natural restoration work and more.
Your skills:
✧ Creative, expressive, resourceful & passionate about working with natural, recycled and reclaimed materials
✧ Professionally trained in carpentry, architecture or background in engineering, natural building, ceramics or related field
✧ Experience or desire to learn masonry, welding, plumbing, and/or electrical is a plus
✧ Awareness of water management, permaculture, solar systems, animal welfare, sustainable farming and other off-grid practices
✧ Ability to prioritize safe, quality work - conscientious about the environment, will ask for hands when needed
✧ Responsible time management - can confidently propose projects, work within a budget and timeframe and follow through autonomously while infusing personal artistry
Structure & Support:
We recognize that the Phase I scope we outlined is substantial, especially as it marks the initiation of the project, and we highly prioritize efforts aligned with our values over purely tangible results. Structured feedback, clear communication, transparent budgets, collaboration, and cross-team support will be provided and available throughout. As a team leader, you will direct all related projects and decisions in the areas of construction, design, and infrastructure, and we commit to trusting your expertise, without micromanaging your efforts or impeding progress or creative processes.
You will work alongside one assistant throughout, and most other able-bodied people on site will provide voluntary support, especially when requested. You will also work closely with the Groundskeeper to ensure you have all the tools, resources, and hands necessary to continue moving forward. The Creative Director will approve projects and budget allowances and coordinate with the Compliance and Funding Manager to request permits, so that as few obstacles and logistical annoyances as possible stand in your way. The goal of this structure and support framework is that you, as a builder, can build unimpeded.
