Role Title – Agroecology & Farm Manager
​
Who this is for:
Farmers, permaculture professionals and green-thumbed artists with passion and expertise for plants and the development and integration of food systems. Values plastic-free, chemical-free, holistic & aesthetic farming. In accordance with the concept of 'Slow Farming' - a practice based on prioritizing sustainability and nutrient quality, over output; slow farming aims instead to produce more, high quality produce through holistic, non-extractive methods. Read more here. Capable of working mindfully, in appreciation of the reciprocal nature of working with plants, and in taking the time to observe the environment first before rushing projects forward. What you'll be working on – phase I scope includes:
Zone 1 - growing enough for us to eat - establishing and stewarding the foundational food-growing systems on site, including seeding, care & potting in the nursery, planting in existing, ready-to-go garden beds, incorporating composting systems, water system improvements, additional privacy hedgerows, some fruit or shade trees, medicinal and aesthetic additions are of high value in this zone.
Zone 2 - high-value farm focus - these zones will be beautiful but practical areas where we can tend towards being a financially sustained farm - this could include the Lady Godiva pumpkin patch, blueberry drive, funded grant leads and other crops to be transformed into value-added goods. This zone will also include wetland and grey water management, a happy family of runner ducks, further compost & resource management, and delimination of areas through borders, fencing, hedgerow and tree planting.

Zone 3 - building out the future operational farm - as our zone 1 gardens will be destined to be salads & herbs focuses, a secondary garden will sit in front of the orchards facing southwest. The soil & foundation will be set for the following season as this area still requires some land clearing, the creation of the beds and water systems. It is to be lined with medicinals, edible hedgerows, the orchards are to be expanded, and the chickens grown.

Zone 4-5 - adding art & beauty - starting to set the 'Land Art Walk' trail, lining it with living artwork, pick-your-own berries and other inspired, interactive garden work. This is where your creative spirit can shine.

Further developments - could include: expansion on all of the above as well as incorporating holistic animal systems (sheep, alpacas, horses) once shelters & fencing are in place, oversight of harvests, weekday morning delivery to the kitchen, stocking the farmstand, selling at markets, maintaining accurate produce inventories, utilizing the animal's manure and fleece for soil care & pest control, and lot's more growth potential.

Your skills:
✧ Passion and experience in food production, garden management, and regenerative or organic growing practices - in the theoretical and practical sense; you're able-bodied and delighted to work outdoors
✧ Deep knowledge or specialized focus in related field such as soil science, vermiculture, apiculture, plastic-free permaculture, tree care, wetlands and water management, etc.
✧ You're a creative soul with aesthetic sensibilities, wishing for a canvas (and time and financing) to express yourself through living art and the design and development of beautifully functional systems
✧ Adaptable and able to manage multiple workflows at once as your day may go from one area to another with built-in changeably as a part of farming - you're easy going about this and tend towards calm observation, taking methodical actions and adjusting accordingly when situations arise - as they do and will
✧ Comfortable delegating and coordinating volunteers, leading team gardening days, capacity to assess when to outsource specialized work and communicate needs clearly
✧ Conscientious, mindful and tending towards noticing the nuances; you're reliable and responsible and naturally care for tools and resources with a waste-free mentality

Structure & Support:
We recognize that the Phase I scope we outlined is substantial, especially as it marks the initiation of the project, and we highly prioritize efforts aligned with our values over purely tangible results. Structured feedback, clear communication, transparent budgets, collaboration, and cross-team support will be provided and available throughout. As a team leader, you will direct all related projects and decisions in the areas of land and water management, and we commit to trusting your expertise, without micromanaging your efforts or impeding progress or creative processes.

You will work alongside one assistant throughout, and most other able-bodied people on site will provide voluntary support, especially when requested. You will also work closely with the Groundskeeper to ensure you have all the tools, resources, and hands necessary to continue moving forward as well as support in delegating daily farm chores. The Creative Director will approve projects and budget allowances and coordinate with the Compliance and Funding Manager to apply for grants, so that as few obstacles and logistical annoyances as possible stand in your way. The goal of this structure and support framework is that you, as a grower, can grow unimpeded.
Role Title – Groundskeeper/Site Steward

Who this is for:
Experienced site managers, resource managers, gardeners, builders, designers, organizers, or action-oriented people with a background in manual labor, service, or land-based maintenance. You value plastic-free, chemical-free, holistic, and aesthetically coherent spaces. Tools, infrastructure, and on-site resources naturally fall within your awareness, and you take direct responsibility for the safety, ambiance, and continuity of a place. As groundskeeper, you support and advocate for land, water, animals, and team members through steady daily care and informed guardianship. You are motivated to create environments that honor all animate forces, feel magnificent and inspiring to inhabit, and enable work to happen in ways that are efficient, healthy, and genuinely enjoyable.

What you'll be working on – phase I scope includes:
Supporting start-up builds & farm work - sourcing, organizing, and maintaining tools, materials, and resources. Prioritizing recycled, reclaimed, and local materials wherever possible, and working within agreed budgets with foresight and a pro-active approach. Propels projects forward by communicating effectively across all teams and taking actions necessary to overcome any limitations and set-backs related to lack of resources.

Daily maintenance & care - of the land, house & commons. Responsible for overseeing all farm chores, house cleanliness, storage, shared workspaces, accessibility, organization and flow, cleaning paths and common areas, and taking care of small repairs, and site improvements that enhance both function and feel. You're directly responsible for upkeep and safety; you can take actions, make decisions and get to it and you know when to ask for assistance or delegate.

Overseeing events, land art paths & further developments - as we build out other areas of the project, you'll continue to manage spaces, monitor site safety, practicality and flow, and address issues early to prevent disruption. You'll oversee areas, paths and infrastructure that will become open to the greater community during open visitor hours and events and work closely with the PR Coordinator to provide place-based assistance and resource management during events.
