Role Title Kitchen Manager

Who this is for:

Plant-based culinary artists, herbal witches and wizards with passion and expertise for whole food nourishment and managing kitchen operations with grace and calm. Values working with fresh, local produce, supermarket, synthetic & additive-free cooking. Capable of working mindfully, infusing dishes with love & artistry over speed & stress. Organized and methodical, you can run a kitchen and feed a crew; you listen to the dietary needs of the group and attune naturally. The kitchen is the heart and soul of co-living, the maternal hearth of warmth, nurture & care – you're someone who loves to nurture others and will receive ample gratitude for upholding this position.

What you'll be working on phase I scope includes:

Brunch Buffet - prepare dishes, set-up self-service buffet & clean up nourishment, five days a week from 12:00-14:00 for a group of about ten residents. Greater community guests will be able to sign-up and pay to attend. Brunches could be morning grains, a salad bar, dressings, toppings, warm dishes, coffee, herbal infused waters, etc. designed by you to meet the group needs (likely plant-based, gluten-free, protein option, simple bases with add-ons). You'll clean up prep areas as you go, you may choose to set up a wash-your-own-bowl station and you'll be responsible for upkeep.

Inventory & Kitchen Management - the kitchen is your domain - you'll establish a tight-run ship, keep a tidy workspace, set & enforce agreements surrounding access, allocated storage for each resident & general cleaning standards.  You'll be in charge of orders & sourcing of any additional ingredients not grown on site. You'll also work with the gardeners to make requests and get to have your hands in to dirt too, especially in the herbal and salad beds just outside the kitchen. All other meals and snacks besides brunch are on the residents, not you, though the Chateau will provide produce and dry goods in our boutique farmstand; you'll keep these stocked, clearly marked and cleanly kept.

Events Catering & Elixir Bar - weekend public event food coordination could include a cacao & elixir bar, curated dining experiences at our sauna soirées, potluck picnics, co-created soups over the fire, etc.

Further developments - future artists residencies and other events will require catering three meals a day to larger groups; the kitchen manager oversees with volunteer support. Potential to establish an herbal apothecary and develop value-added goods from our farm produce, sold in our roadside farmstand boutique.

Your skills:

✧ Passion and experience in catering and kitchen management, especially in plant-based & wellness fields

✧ Methodical with high-level organizational skills and high regard for cleanliness - for this chef role we don't ask you to work well under pressure, but rather to manage your time well and hold a stress-free kitchen environment

✧ You're inspired by fresh farm produce and simple, elemental ingredients; it feels aligned for you to cook exclusively with local and natural whole foods, zero food or flavor additives, exclusively local & natural ingredients, shop at local markets and order from cooperatives for any supplemental goods.

✧ You're a creative soul with a flair for the culinary arts, wishing for a canvas (and time and financing) to express yourself through food and the management of a beautifully functional kitchen

✧ Adaptable and able to listen and attune to the groups needs while working within a budget

✧ Comfortable delegating volunteers and coordinating events; you can lead larger operations with a steady grace

✧ Conscientious, mindful and tending towards noticing the nuances; you're timely, reliable and responsible and naturally care for equipment and resources with a waste-free mentality

Structure & Support:

We recognize that the kitchen is the heart and soul of any co-living ecosystem and we highly prioritize efforts aligned with our values over purely tangible results. Structured feedback, clear communication, transparent budgets, collaboration, and cross-team support will be provided and available throughout. As a team leader, you will direct all related projects and decisions in the areas of kitchen management, and we commit to trusting your expertise, without micromanaging your efforts or impeding progress or creative processes.

You will work closely with the Groundskeeper to ensure you have all the equipment, resources, and hands necessary to continue moving forward as well as support in delegating daily cleaning chores. The Creative Director will pre-approve budget allowances and event meal plans, so that as few obstacles and logistical annoyances as possible stand in your way. The goal of this structure and support framework is that you, as a chef, can cook unimpeded.
